 Getadelt wird wer Schmerzen kennt
Vom Feuer das die Haut verbrennt
Ich werf ein Licht
In mein Gesicht
Ein heisser Schrei
Feuer frei!

Geadelt ist wer Schmerzen kennt
Vom Feuer das in Lust verbrennt
Ein Funkenstoss
In ihren Schoss
Ein heisser Schrei
Feuer frei!

Gefaehrlich ist wer Schmerzen kennt
Vom Feuer das den Geist verbrennt
Gefaehrlich das gebrannte Kind
Mit Feuer das vom Leben trennt
Ein heisser Schrei
Feuer frei!
Whoever knows pain becomes criticized
From the fire that burns up the skin
I throw a light
in my face
A hot cry
Fire at will!

Whoever knows pain is raised
From the fire that burns in desire
A sparking thrust
into her womb
A hot cry
Fire at will!

Whoever knows pain is dangerous
From the fire that burns the soul
The burned child is dangerous
With fire that separates from the life
A hot cry
Fire at will!

This song is about releasing anger that has been held in for a long time. It was used as the introductory song to the movie xXx. The literal translation of the title is Fire freely!, while a more idiomatic translation would be Fire at will! or Open fire!.

I can see some of the lyrics are missing

  • Josky

I will admit that a lot of their songs relate to sex, but that doesn’t mean all of them do. Benzin, Alter Mann, Haifisch… Feuer Frei! does have sexual undertones, but it’s not exclusively about sex, so much as anger and rage. And about Rammstein being all about sex… do YOU even know Rammstein, Mr. Sykes? Herr Lindemann writes songs meant to display the darker side of humanity; a lot of this includes obscene sexual fetishes, such as in Mein Teil or Wiener Blut, but sex isn’t the darkest act humans can commit. Psychological abuse, cannibalism…

    • Anon

The song pussy comes to mind…

  • RammSykes

Josky…do you even know rammstein ? IT S ALL ABOUT SEX WITH RAMMSTEIN, you think yourself superior yet you know NOT what you are talking about…be a little more huble kid.

  • Josky

It’s kinda funny how some people assume it’s about sex but lack the intelligence to look deeper…

  • http://www.enigmagico.com.br Fabio

I shall try my hand @ translating it.

    How ’bout this?

Blamed is he who knows the pain
that burns from within the Skin
    I shed a light
    [into my face
    A flaming shout
    Fire at will!

Blamed is he who knows the pain
    [that burns from within desire
    A sparking thurst
    [within her skirt
    A flaming shout

Dangerous is he who’s known the pain
[from firery burns within the soul
    Dangerous is the scorched child
[from the fire that has life divided

    A flaming shout
    Fire at will!

    “Ein Funkenstoss
    In ihren Schoss”

I know a few years have passed and this doesn’t effect the meaning of this verse but I would not translate “Schoss” as “womb”. It rather means “lap” or “crotch”.

  • Nichts

its missing a part in the song.

starting at about 2.12 you can hear him say “Dein glück, ist nicht mein glück, ist mein unglück”

which i think means “Your happyness, is not my happyness, its my unhappyness” or something like that

  • Cinderella

For me the gist of this song is – “damaged people are dangerous”.

  • Iris

I don’t think the whole song has one meaning. It can be about sex, war and anger at the same time. That’s why I love Rammstein.

  • Leann

DB1, where did you get this ringtone from??

  • Leann

I personally think the synth parts of this song remind me of the background music played on my favorite old Nintendo game ever…. can you guess it??? Anyone know Metroid???? OMG I loved that game!

  • Rammspieler

Brilliant song. The lyrics, how they’re sung, the music – it’s all so brilliant. A bit of pop, a bit of rock, a dancy vibe and a hint of gravel in Till’s voice. Awesome, and Long Live Rammstein!

  • DB1

I never felt any ringtone I’ve ever heard was any good so I always had my phone on vibrate but this is now my ringtone. Every time I get a call, I feel like the most badass mofo ever.

  • Seraphim

It looks to me more like a metaphor that the “birth of the destructive child”, that is, “the wretched person who I have become” was caused by the “spark within the woman named Anger”, which in of itself is caused by experiencing pain for the first time. Sex, anger, pain, sorrow, and personal growth all wrapped into one.

  • Fallen Angel

Like Charismatic Enigma said within the verse analysis

  • Fallen Angel

Ahh, its been 6 moths since i studied a rammstein track.. my radio is getting mad at me. I agree with the two previous posts. Releasing anger by means of War and Sex and it would seem. Now when i think of WW2 when the soviets where now in germany, they where releasing their anger through war, and to contaminate the Arian race, they raped the females, and this is quite occuring in War in general. Now looking back as beeing from East Germany, it is quite possible that this song draws the paralels and intersections between bothe the aspects of war and war rape.

    Just my thoughts

  • DaveSykes

Tasha ‘s right…It”s a sex thing…RAMMSTEIN thrives on double-meanings, but this is so clear! releasing anger…lol, and Reise, Reise Seemann Reise is about voyaging sailors…suuuuure :P

Charismatic Enigma : I always thought it was drawing a parallel between sex and war –both are pervasively “male” things….i’ve met women who would argue that point…

  • Charismatic Enigma

I hope I didn’t offend anyone with my previous comment; I just don’t find war to be in anyone’s best interest.

  • Charismatic Enigma

I always thought it was drawing a parallel between sex and war –both are pervasively “male” things.

I’ve also heard an interpretation that puts most of the focus on the third verse — “Gefahrlich, das gebrannte Kind mit Feuer, das vom Leben trennt”. Dangerous is the burnt child with fire that separates from life, or something along those lines.

A child was brought up in a very effed-up life (perhaps abused or bullied) and has a lot of deep-seated rage inside that needs to be released one way or another. The first verse explores the possibility that he goes off to war and vents his rage through violence and government-subsidized murder, while the second verse parallels a firefight with sexual climax, perhaps suggesting “angry sex”.

  • Tasha

“From the fire that burns in desire
    A sparking thrust
    into her womb
    A hot cry
    Fire at will!”

Releasing pent up anger? You’ve got to be joking. It’s about ejaculation, plain and simple.

    **high fives Guerrilla.1**

  • Tyler

that verse comes after the second verse

  • Tyler

    You missed a whole verse.
    Dein Glück
    ist nicht mein Glück
    ist mein Unglück

    Your happiness
    is not my happiness
    it is my misery

  • Guerrilla.1

oh and Dorsay, you probably got some sexual frustration issues. But come on it’s 2010, it’s ok to be gay, hell everyone has at least tried it, those who haven’t are just to scared to.

  • Guerrilla.1

Releasing pent up anger caused by a woman????????Anger impregnating the mind????WTF you people are nuts, IT”S ABOUT SEX AND “FIRING” YOUR “GUN” IN A WOMAN………for all you prudes it’s about fucking, and there’s some other stuff int here for filler, but come on it’s Rammstein, have you seen the video for Pussy?????

  • Kazudo

    To Lebrock:

It has to do with the anger impregnating the mind with a child of evil.

    I think.

  • Lizzie

Feuer Frei actually translates as ‘Fire At Will’.
    It’s a German Military term.
Yes Feuer Frei literally translates as fire free, but in this case it translation is used as an order, so the above translation of Fire At Will would be the correct term. :)

    Auf Wiedersehen! xD

  • Dorsay

Well, I belive music is more related to emotions, than reason, that is why, most of us like this song the first time we hear it, even when we could not understand a bloody word!, am I right?…therefore, yes, if any of you guys has ever being really, and I mean REALLY PISS OFF!!, you will understand the meaning of FIRE UP!!..is just like “all hell loose”…like finding you girl in bed with an asshole who thinks you are a pussy, and just when he thinks he will play “Spartacus” with you, you find yourself breaking his jaw against the floor while smiling like a crazy, knowing YOU OWN HIS ASS!!..

Sorry, I let myself go on this one…I, too, was an angry child…jejeje…

    P.S.: Pura vida!

  • EleNaKi ~“`~“`~“`~

    RAMMSTEIN 4 EVER

  • EleNaKi ~“`~“`~“`

i love RAMMSTEIN and feuer frei too!!!!

  • blub

So I’m just curious, if the song is just about built up anger and all, where does “a sparking thrust into her womb” come in? =/

    • Lebrock

it comes from releasing the anger caused by a woman. Alot of their songs are related to relationships and this one is not really that different. Its them taking their anger out on the specific woman that who ever wrote the song was thinking of. But it can be adapted to any female who causes pain or anguish.

  • tebori

Blood curdling – all good – ahhhh!

  • bizzeeb1

I think the idea being conveyed is 'Open Fire' but I think everyone gets the same image in mind whatever way it is translated.

  • Kyoskei

Well the context is words are Fire Freely so its more like “Fire at will”

    • Kyoskei

      sorry about my Typo

“Well the context and words are Fire Freely so its more like “Fire at will”

  • Shadow

Its free fire not fire free!

  • Typhus

Hey guys, great job on your carrer and songs, the one that catches my interest is Feuer Frei. I noticed you used the words "fire free" when the context should be "open fire", otherwise it kinda gets confusing with the "bang bang" part. I cant wait til the next album comes out!

    Sencerely: Typhus

  • Artemis

    pain is the only constant…

    • http://myspace.com/tomrichter2 tom

      your uber gay

    • Artemis

tom, it s/b “you’re uber gay”…if you plan on insulting someone at least make sure you don’t sound like an idiot.
this is a great song, and yes, pain/anger/frustration…these things are constant…mostly from having to put up with moronic individuals who fancy they know it all.

    • Rick

      l33t gay.

    • Christina

yeah pain is the only constant thing when was fifteen feuer frei was the song that i listened to most because of the lyrics and what it means (i was an angry child)
