One love, one promise Said I would come back to you Well, I must sadly break it His bullet is stuck in me One love, two guns One points into my face He says I stole you He doesn’t know That you love me Red sand and two rounds One dies in a kiss of gunpowder The second shall not spare its target Now is stuck deeply in my chest One love, one promise Oh the blood runs from the mouth And no one will avenge me Senselessly I perish One love, two guns One could draw faster Well, it was not me Now you belong to him Red sand and two rounds One dies in a kiss of gunpowder The second which didn't spare its target Now is stuck deeply in my chest Red sand and doves* Refresh themselves on my blood At the end there is but an end I am good for something finally Red sand and two rounds One dies in a kiss of gunpowder The second which didn't spare its target Now is stuck deeply in my chest Translation © Affenknecht.com |
Translation Notes:
* Tauben = pigeons, weisse Tauben = white pigeons = doves
Beautiful song. Sorrow filled that reminds me of Nebel.
Beatiful song indeed!!
sticks now deep in my breast=>breast should probably better translated as chest.
And none will smell me=>rechen is not the same as riechst. in this case it should something mean that none will fix me up, dunno how to say in english but something like not being able to be fixed.
Sinnlos gehe ich zu Grund=>pointlesly i fall to the ground.
Einer konnte schneller ziehen=>one could pull faster.
sorry for the picky me, but translations should be good and not half half.
anyway, i really love this song, it’s very beautifull, maybe it will replace my lvoe for seemann…nah think they both will be 1st:)
hmmm… I’m a bit of a language buff too, so i looked it up and my dictionary says “rake”?
Anyway, brilliant song! I fell asleep to it on repeat last night
Brilliant song. Really hope this will be the end song of their show. The Orchestral version.
Btw any change that you will upload the Liese lyrics really curious what those lyrics really mean.
Quite possibly the best song EVER written!!!
it’s terrific guys!!!i can’t believe the melody and the lyrics!!r just wow!!
The correct word is “rächen” not “rechen” and the meaning then is “no one will revenge me”.
I think “avenge” would suit it better
@ulrika haha yes that was what i was looking for, couldn’t come up with that for some reason…
“Roter Sand und weisse Tauben” should probably be fully translated as red sand and white doves, there is nothing wrong with the translation listed, but to get the full imagery from the song anyone looking for a translation here would be helped seeing that one. Otherwise awesome site, glad I stumbled across it.
Anubis, Tauben = pigeons…Weisse Tauben = doves I’ll make a note of it
I think “Die zweite soll ihr Ziel nicht schonen
Steckt jetzt tief in meiner Brust”
should be more like
“The second [bullet] will/shall not spare its target
now lies deep in my chest”
“I am finally at something good”
Um a bit of Fail here, should be I am finally good at Something
German syntax =/= English syntax
Ryan – good point BUT he’s actually saying he has found something good which is death.
EHS – I agree with Ryan, doesn’t it mean that he’s finally good at something, meaning his blood is refreshing for the doves?
Rik, a good point aswell but as he is dead, the doves come down and drink his blood and this is how they refresh themselves.
This translation of mine is just one way it can be seen. Everyone can make their own thing from it. I just did it here so it remains as close as possible to the original text.
Concerning these three stanzas:
“Einer konnte schneller ziehen
Nun ich bin es nicht gewesen
Jetzt gehörst du ihm”
A more appropriate translation would be:
“One could draw (his gun) faster
And since this wasn’t me
You now belong to him”
Just thought you’d like to know
ahhh, Got this CD last night, was so upset that I did not get it on the release date here in America. my favorite on the CD!!! in all honesty, they exceeded my expectations with this album!!
one question though, I didn’t get the special edition with the 2nd disc…how is the orchestra version of Roter Sand??? is it PHENOMENAL???? I’m about to go grab it!
Thanx for the translation, guys… seriously deep and emotion packed song. This’ll be kicking ass for decades to come, yup. =) Cheers!
- “Die zweite soll ihr Ziel nicht schonen” means “The second (cartridge/bullet) shouldn’t spare its target”
Do you people think as well that this has a hint to those 60’s/70’s western movies?
The whistling, the red sand and the ’shoot-out’:
“One could draw (his gun) faster
And since this wasn’t me
You now belong to him” verse.
Nun ich bin es nicht gewesen to me interprets as “Now I am not it” as in “I’m not the one, now he is” when taken with the next line.
I used google translate and dict.cc to check this, and I think “Die zweite soll ihr Ziel nicht schonen” would best be translated “The second will not hit its target” based on the definition of “schonen” as “to take care of” as per dict.cc.
@Matt: NICHT schonen! “Schonen” means “verschonen” here (to spare).
Matt, google translates schonen as spare, so “Die zweite soll ihr Ziel nicht sconen” means – “the second shall not spare its target”.
And to the translator: nowhere in that sentence it is said that the woman should be the target of this bullet.
Eine stirbt in Pulverkuss = One dies is a powderkiss. Means one bullet is of target and only hits the sand they are standing on, creating a founten (= powder) when it hits (= kiss(es)) the sand.
Anyone else notice Roter Sand and Liese are the same song with different lyrics?
I prefer Liese personally. I think this album is amazing. I’ve grown to love pretty much all the songs. Wiener Blut is my favorite for sure. SO EPIC
“Bin ich doch zu etwas gut” means “Am i really worth for something”
“Anyone else notice Roter Sand and Liese are the same song with different lyrics?”
^ well duuhhhhh
i also prefer Liese
Am Ende gibt es doch ein Ende, bin ich doch zu etwas gut
@Georgi: It would- with a question mark. But this is no question, so it means in its context:
In the end there is an end and finally I am good at something [or better: at one thing].
The explanation given by the translator (found something good) makes no sense in German.
“Die zweite soll ihr Ziel nicht schonen” should be:
“the second one shall not defend its target”
I guess you need help with translations. If you do, I`ve got C2 (proficient) in English and German, work as a translator. Need help?
@TommiK:
Schonen = verschonen = spare
Defend = verteidigen/ sich wehren = does not fit here.
Wie soll eine Kugel ein Ziel verteidigen können?
Thanks for the translation…
But on my mind
“Zwei Patronen” should be translated as “2 Bullets”
I am amazed, they have gotten better and better with every alblum. I was completely blown away by this alblum, as I am by every release. The orchestral version of this song is quite amazing.
With Rammstein, I have however gotten into the habit of looking for special editions of their releases. This one was well worth the wait, I was JUST able to buy it yesterday.
When I first heard this song, I thought of a soldier laying almost dead in the sand, I could only pick out a few words sence I know very little German. Now reading the actual translation I am blown away. This song really puts you in the mind of that person laying there, what his thoughts are. Such a sad story.
I don’t think this song is about a soldier. I believe is about a duel, probably around the XVIII century when only single shot guns were available. The cause?, a woman. Awesome song.
Oh I know it is about what you said, It was just what I thought it was about, because I know only a very little bit of german. But then when I read the real translation, it made more sence. =)
Wow. This song actually made me tear-up some lol, very sad song. Very deep. I dont like Liese, I like the Orchestratal version of Roter Sand. Liese is just about a poor girl getting raped… how can you guys like that over a beautiful song like this?
“Liese is just about a poor girl getting raped… how can you guys like that over a beautiful song like this?”
the lyrics in Liese are sick and twisted, which a lot of people like. it’s also a form of art.
This song is amazing i love the lyrics it is like two guys having a standoff for one girl love it a lot especialy the line now you are his
The intro whistle reminds me of a spaghetti western movie. The Harmonica man (Ennio Morricone) and The good, the bad and the ugly (also Morricone) – try searching youtube for those. Awesome track!
Good god, what beautiful song. Just. Perfect. And I just found out there’s an orchestal version… squeeeeeee…
What are they saying in the orchester version? between the main verses i cant quite make out the words
it sounds like at first hes saying Wir horen, (we hear) but the rest i cant tell :[
I just have a small problem with the following translation.
Sinnlos gehe ich zugrund – Senselessly I perish
Now, the idea is that he is dying, but the translation should be:
Senselessly go I to ground.
Just based on my own language, which is Afrikaans, which is like a mixture of Dutch/German/Flemish.
Sinnlos gehe ich zugrund – Without a reason I die?
Thanks Mads.
I’m still not entirely convinced.
I know that the impression is that he dies senselessly, but I still think Rammstein chose certain words to suit the mood. And through translation you already lose so much, I prefer a more direct translation of the words to create the scene properly.
But, that’s just me. Thanks for the reply.
i think the album is killer even thou i do not understand anything being said on the album
Amazing song……and I consider myself very fortunate to see them live @ Nantes. Thanks to the Deutsch who are keeping the translations true to form. I’m Deutsch by only two generations…..my ancestors immediately spoke English here, but I’m very proud and respectful of my heritage. For any others….please understand that the “corrections” are not at all meant to be rude…..only imagine your native language butchered in song and how much better it’d be if given a more accurate read.
the start kinda sounds like a song by Dimmu Borgir that got blocked by the police
I love this song so much. It makes me want to cry… or sleep.
Sad, so very sad… it gives more truth to the romanticized duels told of in romance novels and legends.
