They don’t teach it in schools like they do in Europe, so if you don’t take it in college or study independently, you’re never going to be any good. It’s not a failure on the people; it’s public education’s failure.
And yes, I’ve gone to school in both the U.S. and Germany. I’m quite aware of the difference between the language programs.
