Premiere: April 23rd, 2010 (myspace.com)
Shoot date: November 2009
Shoot place: Postdam, Germany
Directed by: Jörn Heitmann
Album: Liebe ist für alle da

Lyric: Haifisch translated

Description: The music video was released on 23 April 2010 on the band’s MySpace page.

The video features the band at lead singer Till Lindemann’s funeral along with some other mourners, Marilyn Manson is one of the mourners, a cat fight breaks out between two women while the rest of the band contemplate on who should replace Till as the singer (with James Hetfield seeming to be the popular choice).

As the video goes on it shows many scenarios of how Till died which are all based on previous Rammstein videos, being beaten and set alight (Du Hast), being thrown from a cliff while rock climbing (Ohne Dich), having his oxygen pipe removed from his space suit while on the moon (Amerika), and a fat Till being suffocated by spaghetti fed to him by Flake (Keine Lust).

Paul Landers also imagines himself being spanked by Till in a Snow White costume (Sonne). Later in the video the band begins to fight amongst themselves and Flake finds himself falling into the grave and breaking Till’s coffin open only to find there is no body.

It is then revealed that Till is alive and well in Oahu, Hawaii where he sends a postcard that reads “Viele Grüße vom Arsch der Welt” (German: “Greetings from the butt of the world”) to the band showing a shark that he has caught.

Scene breakdown:

Scene 1: Quotes from Ohne Dich and Seemann. Ich werde in die Tannen gehen (=I'm going to go into the fir trees), am Ende bleib ich doch alleine (=at the end I am left alone)

Scene 2 - Marilyn Manson has, for a while, had thick eyebrows, notably absent in his appearance here. In all but one shot of 'Manson' he looks weird, and far taller than his actualy 6ft.1in height. The shot of him behind the band (0:34 ish) is a superimposed image of Manson, since the only movement he does whatsoever is blink. The so called Manson is also dining behind Paul and Richard when they fight.

Scene 3: The catfight that follows is most likely between the pregnant mistress posing in front of the coffin and the wife. Till has mentioned before that he has many children with many women, the depressed man in the background is most likely the pregnant woman’s husband.

Scene 4 - Henry Rollins (born February 13, 1961 as Henry Lawrence Garfield) is an American singer-songwriter, raconteur, stand-up comedian, spoken word artist, writer, publisher, actor, radio DJ, and activist. After joining the short-lived Washington D.C.-based band State of Alert in 1980, Rollins fronted the California hardcore punk band Black Flag from 1981 until 1986. Following the band's breakup, Rollins soon established the record label and publishing company 2.13.61 to release his spoken word albums, as well as forming the Rollins Band, which toured with a number of lineups until 2003 and during 2006. It is not known yet, why he was considered as Till's replacement.

Scene 5 - James Alan Hetfield (born August 3, 1963) is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and co-founder of the American thrash metal band Metallica. In the video, the remaining Rammstein members are considering him as an appropriate replacement for the dead Lindemann

Scene 6: Doesn’t mean much besides the funny fact that the coffin is off balance and badly tilted to one side as Paul is much shorter than Oliver. In addition, in the end we find out that the coffin was empty.

Scene 7: A take on the Du Hast video, Till kneels on the ground, his face covered in blood looking pleadingy at Schneider, who has an open petrol can in his hand, he douses Till in the liquid before lighting a match. He also seems to have no reason to want Till dead. This also is a direct reference to Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs when Michael Madsen douses Tim Roth in petrol and sets him on fire.

Scene 8 says Till’s date of birth and when he died. But also the, Endlich allein, means finally single or finally alone. It may be the interpretation of the joke of Peter Steele a few years ago: he posted on the webpage of Type O Negative a picture of a tombstone with ‘Peter Steele 1962-2005 – Free At Last’ written on it.

Scene 9: This is a reference to the Ohne dich video, where Till died for the first time. Rather than falling accidentally as in the original video for Ohne Dich, the rope is intentionally cut here.

Scene 10 - This a reference to Sonne video, which features the band as dwarves working for a gold-addicted Snow-White. In the Haifisch video Till is spanking Paul but it seems that Paul is the only one that didnt try to kill Till, but was the only one that had reason to.

Scene 11: A reference to Amerika video. Till colapses on the moon’s surface, with the earth in the distance, after having his oxygen tube removed from his suit by Oliver. Oli’s Revenge for Till’s argue when he played Star Trek game. Oli pulled out Tills oxigen, after that Till turn to blue, Oli salute as a good astronaut.

Scene 12: A reference to Keine Lust (where everyone but Flake was fat), possibly Mein Teil as well, given the violent motif surrounding the act of eating. More obviously, a reference to the film Se7en (a man who was forced to feed himself to death to represent Gluttony).

Scene 13 - Theese are the teeth of the Du Riechst so Gut’s vampire’s. On the video you could see that the castle behind the funeral is looks like in the Du Riechst so Gut video. The little girl seems to be wearing a dress similar to Rosenrot’s – plus she has black hair like Rosenrot.

Scene 14: Flake falls, and breaks the coffin. The coffin is empty, so maybe Till isn’t dead. In “Asche Zu Asche” Till sings: “Ich komm wieder in zehn Tagen” (I will return in ten days). So Till has returned, or he is immortal. Or maybe Till is in heaven?

Scene 15: Till trying his best to look like one ‘Mr.Fritzl’ Probably a link to ‘Weiner Blut’, A song later in the album. It would appear that Till has been in Hawaii for quite some time considering his Firtzl-like moustache and Gray hair…This scene may be a long time after his funeral as the postcard shows Till looking like his Non Gray, Non moustached face.

Scene 16 - This is written on the post card: “Viele Grüße vom Arsch der Welt” (=Greetings from the butt of the world). There is a discrepancy in the fact where is the postcard being sent from, the postcard is probably bought in Hawai, however the stamp is from Easter Island (Rapa Nui) - a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean.

Is the little girl in scene 13 mackenzie foy?

  • crunch

This is just my first interpretation, but after reading all the comments I don’t think it’s impossible. What if instead of suspecting other band members off’d Till in the flashbacks, the flashbacks are all in each murderer’s mind? Like the person flashing back to force feeding Till to death is Flake, and the person flashing back to pulling Till’s Oxygen is Oli.

I think this could fit the lyrics by implying that they all hated Till(The shark) but now that they’ve killed the ‘bad guy’ they are all somewhat regretful and start to think better of him.

They turn their guilt on each other and start fighting, but once it’s revealed he’s not really dead, the guilt is gone and there is no reason to fight.

I know this doesn’t follow the lyrics, but not all videos do. Pretty cool video!

  • moi

    @Rammspieler,
I think the same. The video shows what will happen if some of the six leaves or dies. And it’s not the opposite of the song, its just chronological continuation of the song. Rammstein will be Rammstein as long as the all six are there.

  • Rammspieler

I think this video demonstrates that if one member leaves, that would be the end of Rammsein. (one of the band members said this in an interview released on the Live Aus Berlin DVD). Till dies, and fights erupt, the band seemingly breaking up.

  • adam

When the little girl picks up the teeth, yes it could be from du riechst so gut 98, but they weren’t vampires, they were obviosley werewolves, I just would like this tiny error fixed please

  • charlie151rum

i just hope they dont retire before i get a chance to see them live! i know this is highly unlikely but i want to get a back stage pass to see them face to face especially till!!! i consider myself more then just some fan! i listened to ramsmtein since i was 8 and spent great deal of time listening and contemplating about his lyrics and piecing everything together trying to understand and in many ways till is my hero so is the band but because how till sings the passion he puts into it is like no other! i also can grasp that feeling he is trying to portray in every sound he makes in his music!

scene 14: Flake falls, and breaks the coffin. The coffin is empty, so maybe Till isn’t dead. In “Asche Zu Asche” Till sings: “Ich komm wieder in zehn Tagen” (I will return in ten days). So Till has returned, or he is immortal. Or maybe Till is in heaven?

  • bernd

Yup.. No Fritzl.. Its a link to Hamingway.

  • Samael

Hey speaking of Schneider, he’s wearing a skullcap in this video, is he Jewish or is it just cause it looks good on him?

  • Tommy

The person burned in Du Hast is Schneider, and it’s what the woman thinks happened, that they burned him.

  • Durden

sorry typed the above quickly ^^ the person burned in du hast is a RANDOM not a Rammstein lol

  • Durden

the person burned in du hast is a rammstein – the woman dies in the car explosion – di you not pay attention to it. all are good and well at the end and the women watches them come out. then the car detonates!

  • Ramm09

    @FLAMMENWERFER
The man spanking paul is Till, you can clearly see it. You can see Flake in the background

  • Flammenwerfer

    1. Why is “Marilyn Manson” in the video? As far as I know he has no connections with Rammstein. I assume it’s just a joke, but what is the meaning?

    2. Someone already pointed this out, but it’s still not corrected with the pic: In Reservoir Dogs, Michael Madsen’s character does NOT burn Tim Roth’s. Madsen douses a policeman in fuel but then he was shot by Roth before he could set the policeman on fire.

Someone said that Schneider burned Till because they burned him in Du Hast. No, they did not. They burned the woman. The woman pretends to love Schneider, but in reality tries to use him. (Observe her face when she hugs him goodbye in the car.) She apparently either want him killing the others or she is setting him up to get killed by them. Then they reveal themselves as his old friends. Remember the shock on her face when she see Schneider coming out of the building with them. In the end they blow everything up (remember scenes at beginning of video has some of her belongings in) and walk away together. The video is in the context of the lyrics.

    3. The man spanking Paul is NOT Till, it is Flake! Go look again at the face, it is clearly not Till. In the video, we see the spanking scene and then Flake looks at Paul and grins. My theory is this: Flake is the “unfortunate” one in all Rammstein’s videos. He was always abused by Till. Now that Till is dead, Flake fantisise about abusing Paul. Paul then suspects that Flake murdered Till as seen in the spagetthi scene.

    4. Why is the pic of Flake falling into the coffin without a description? It’s a significant moment in the video.

    5. With the pics it says there is a “discrepancy” about Till’s location. I don’t think so. Till is a lot younger when he caught the shark. Printed on the poscard is the location where Till caught the shark. He sends the postcard many years later, from a different location. So, that simply means he travelled since he caught the shark in Hawaii.

    6. Here is my idea about the meaning of the video: The video has the exact same meaning as the song, only now they say it by showing what the opposite would look like. They show that without what they describe in the song, they would fall apart. In a twist of dark humour, they turn the lyrics around to mean something different.

One of the things that makes Rammstein great is that it always was the six of them, they never had other members etc. They formed the band when they were already matured as artists. All six of them are masterful artists. If one of them left the band, Rammstein would end. There is no replacement for any of them.

Now, I think the song and the video shows this. With Till gone, the band simply disintegrates. The scene where Till stand by the shark becomes symbolic. The shark is the essence of Rammstein, when Till left he took it with him. The shark died when is was taken out of the water.

In the end, I think this video is just Rammstein being Rammstein. The song is about the essence of the band and it’s fans. But, in the video, Rammstein twists it around just for a bit of dark humour.

    RAMMSTEIN!

  • V

Scene 8 – If Till ever leaves/dies, Rammstein dies with him, it wouldn’t be Rammstein without Till.

  • durden

Castle Beesenstasdt is used the same one tghat they recorded they album at or whatever – not the DRSG98 castle

  • durden

No one is set on fire in Reservoir Dogs!

  • minc

    @MARK: I know that, RIP.
But this video was made way before his actual death, so in my opinion his death has nothing to do with the MV.
Besides, it was just a theory of mine…

  • Mark

    @MINC

Peter Steele is now actually dead. He died from heart failure April 21, 2010.

    RIP

  • SEEDO

Sort of odd video…anyway i like it..

  • cole

Scene 8 says Till’s date of birth and when he died. But also the, Endlich allein, means finally single or finally alone.

  • minc

I think scene 8 may be the interpretation of the joke of Peter Steele a few years ago: he posted on the webpage of Type O Negative a picture of a tombstone with ‘Peter Steele 1962-2005 – Free At Last’ written on it.

  • red_ice

sorry, just couldn’t resist and not to mention.
    First of all,
    6. Oliver is taller then Paul, not Paul is taller then Oliver :)
    7. Michael Madsen didn’t douse Tim Roth in petrol and didn’t set him on fire in Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. It was a policeman who ended up that way (though he actually wasn’t fired – only poured in benzin, in the end one of mafia bosses shot him). Tim Roth’s character’s been accidently shot in the stomach by some old woman, so he was lying on the floor bleeding in that scene and couldn’t help the tortured policeman.

    To MedicalNonsense:
I thought about it as well, as the mix of old videos always make me feel sort of nostalgia. But I guess it soo not their style – to say goodbye that way! So I think yeah they were mocking a little)

  • terrorleid

I agriee with the statement that in this video Rammstein represent the shark. What ever hapends, even the death of one member at least that member is Till, they want stop. But -Haifisch der hat tranen- and the shark have tears, conscience bother them all, every one feel a litle bit responsable for Till’s death. That feeling culminate in the and when they all fight among themselves.

In my opinion Till’s gray hare is not related with Fritzl. I think that, in some way, it simbolised Hamingway’s old man from his novel -The Old Man and the Sea-, because on the postcard is written -Hamingway-, and Till stand by the shark which is also the plot of mentioned novel.

  • MedicalNonsense

Scene 3: Something to add, Till has mentioned before that he has many children with many women, the depressed man in the background is most likely the pregnant woman’s husband.
Scene 8: English translation for the wording beneath the death date is Finally Alone, fitting considering it seems to be a common theme with Till.

  • http://n/a ariesgirl

I really don’t think this should be taken as a ‘hint’ that the band is ending-R+ has never been the kind of band to slip little ‘messages’ into their music. (That’s more of a Beatles thing.)I think it was just a good concept that works-albeit abstractly- with the song.

  • Ich+Liebe+Ramms+ein!!

Scene 7: A take on the Du Hast video, Till kneels on the ground, his face covered in blood looking pleadingy at Schneider, who has an open petrol can in his hand, he douses Till in the liquid before lighting a match. He also seems to have no reason to want Till dead,

Scene 11: Till colapses on the moon’s surface, with the earth in the distance, after having his oxygen tube removed from his suit by Oliver

I Really loved this video, although, i didnt like Till’s moustache at the end :S I thing He looks much sexier WITHOUT it :D

  • Marii

    Scene 8
Dead part of Rammstein, or Rammstein as Tills first name, or it also could be The Most Scary Dream Of Every RammFan

  • Chris

And forgot to add (don’t know if you can edit comments) that Scene 7 is a reference to Du Hast video, where Till is torched by Schneider rather than the other way round.

  • Chris

    @MedicalNonsense

I doubt that’s true, they’ve done the flashbacks part before, albeit for only a few seconds, at the end of the Ich Will video. This is just them having a good laugh I imagine – I think we’ll be seeing more from them.

  • Xp

Scene 3: The catfight that follows is most likely between the pregnant mistress posing in front of the coffin and the wife.

Scene 8 the fake date of Death

Scene 7 is from Du hast, but Till gets doused in gasoline.

Scene 11 Is from Amerika. but someone lets the air outta Tills space suit and suffocates.

  • Butcher

Scene 7- From Du Hast, but Till is about to get doused in gasoline.

  • Aamon

scene 6 i think is linked to sonne, the band carrying a coffin.

  • cole

Scene 16 is most likely from Porto Rico. Till has a summer homem, if you want to call it that, in Porto Rico.

  • MedicalNonsense

I am very curious about the large amount of references to most (if not all) of their music videos. It almost worries me in a way. Though I am aware of Till saying a number of years ago that he would retire at 50 to spend time with his children–and this does somewhat support what worries me–could this possibly mean that this is their last music video? Sort of a recap of everything they have done in their final creation? Maybe I’m just reading too far into things.

  • Douglas

My take on it is that Till has died and each of the band members suspects one of the others of murdering him.

During each of the scenes showing Till dieing one of the band members stares suspiciously at the person involved in the scene e.g. Oliver looking at Schneider during the Du Hast scene and then Scneider looking at Richard during the Ohne Dich scene.

Why Flake was imagining Paul being spanked I have no idea.

This would explain why the fight ends up breaking out towards the end.

The little girl seems to be wearing a dress similar to Rosenrot’s – plus she has black hair like Rosenrot.

For Scene 10 it shows Till (or Flake – my computer wont stream properly) spanking Paul but it seems that Paul is the only one that didnt try to kill Till, but was the only one that had reason to.

  • Samael

Oh yeah, one more thing… I’ll need someone else to expand on this but do you think scene 13 is a reference to Rosenrot? Maybe I’m imagining it, but something seems familiar…

  • Samael

Scene 1: Quotes from Ohne Dich and Seemann.

Scene 9: Rather than falling accidentally as in the original video for Ohne Dich, the rope is intentionally cut.

Scene 12: A reference to Keine Lust, possibly Mein Teil as well, given the violent motif surrounding the act of eating. More obviously, a reference to the film Se7en.

  • Rainompost

lol, TIll looks like Tom Selleck xD

  • Till Bear

Scene 13: The inspiration for the chorus was
“And the shark, it has teeth
And it wears them in its face
And MacHeath, he has a knife
But no one sees the knife” – Die Dreigroschenoper

This could be linking it with the inspiraton (The Shark is Rammstein and it proves it has teeth…In a odd way)

  • Till Bear

Scene 15: Till trying his best to look like one ‘Mr.Fritzl’ Probably a link to ‘Weiner Blut’, A song later in the album. It would appear that Till has been in Hawaii for quite some time considering his Firtzl-like moustache and Gray hair…This scene may be a long time after his funeral as the postcard shows Till looking like his Non Gray, Non moustached face.

  • AwesomeLaw_some

oh god i could hardly watch the spaghetti part uhhhg, hilarious but so gross.

  • nunodn

the video is completely the oposite of the song…
i just hope that they aren t serious about the end of the band
